  1. Sage of Fables does not have a +1/+1 counter on it.

Steps

  1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Sage of Fables, adding ({C} magic symbol)  ({C} magic symbol)  .
  2. When Sage of Fables dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  3. Activate Sage of Fables by paying ({2} magic symbol)   and removing the +1/+1 counter from it, causing you to draw a card.
  4. Repeat.
